I walked into the Opera House, a multi-venue performing arts centre in the heart of Sydney. It was one of the most captivating and immense structures I had ever seen.
It is located only six minutes away from my hotel and is at the waters edge. The Opera House allowed breathtaking views not only of the port but of the Harbour Bridge as well. They caught my eye and drew me closer to the gargantuan landmark. There are various one hour guided tours of the Opera House providing information about the history and the architecture of one of the greatest buildings in the world. This was well and truly the experience of a lifetime.
The Sydney Opera House opened in 1973 it was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon. The New South Wales government allowed work to start in 1958.
The Opera House is one of the most busiest performing arts centres in the world, it hosts over 1,500 performances and they are attended by 1.2 million people each year. Over seven million people visit every year with 300,000 of those people take a guided tour.
The building covers 1.8 hectares. Due to the size of the opera house it is supported on 588 concrete piers sunk as deep as 29 meters below sea level.
I was greeted by the titanic structure of the Opera House as I started my tour. I was informed with stories of the origin and discovered amusing things about this eye catching landmark that I had never heard before. As the guided tour continued it took me underneath the world famous sails and inside the world heritage masterpiece, home to 1000 rooms and 300 corridors. This was one of the most unforgettable ways to explore the Sydney Opera House.
To tour the Opera House for a family of four costs $90.00 and for an additional child is $12.50. If you're going to Sydney the Opera House is the place to visit..........Enjoy
